This exciting program is in collaboration with Florence University of the Arts. Students enroll in two courses. Students select one of our three ASU offerings, and one from a wide variety of courses offered by Florence University of the Arts.

Florence University of the Arts
It is the newest arts school in Florence specializing in art, cuisine, culture and Italian language. It originally opened its doors in 1999 as Apicius, the Culinary Institute of Florence. In just a few short years, it has expanded and grown to the extent that a new division has been added, Florence University of the Arts. Authorized by and accredited through the Italian Ministry of Public Education, the University offers extensive Studio Arts, Language, Social Studies and Humanities programs. Located in the historic center of Florence, FUA and Apicius are quickly becoming the foremost institutions studying art, culture, and culinary arts.

Florence University of the Arts Courses:
FUA offers a wide range of traditional and unique course offerings, such as: Studio Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Cinema, Culinary Arts, Art of Winemaking and Tasting, Liberal Arts, Business, Marketing, Photography, and Architecture.

Arkansas State University Course Offered:

Florentine art history in situ is taught by Dr. Daniel Reeves, Dean, College of Fine Arts. Open to non-art majors, as well as art majors, this course surveys the breadth of Renaissance art in Florence, from its beginnings in the 13th century to the 16th century transformation into an age of artistic and intellectual giants. Lectures and discussions are conducted on site, in the presence of heroic works.

Students will begin to reconstruct the intentions of Renaissance artists, the language with which they discussed, understood and made art, as well as the reception of their works by their original audiences. Attention will be given to the changing functions served by works of art in the Italian Renaissance society and the impact of humanism, economics, science and ideas upon the arts.
